Vera Hofbauer, born in Vienna, studied urban and regional planning at the Technical University of Vienna and the Universidad Politecnica in Madrid. She started her career at urban planning and spatial analysis agencies. Between 2004 and 2017 she worked for viadonau, the Austrian waterway operator, where she managed national and international project in the fields of inland waterway policy and built up the team knowledge management. In 2017, she joined the Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology as head of the department “Shipping – Technology and Nautics”. Since 2022, she is head of Directorate General Transport at the Federal Ministry.
