Murray-Darling Basin Native Fish Management and Recovery Strategy
As part of the response to the fish mortality events that occurred in the lower Darling River, and other parts of the Murray-Darling Basin during the 2018-19 summer, the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources announced $5 million of joint government (state and Commonwealth) money towards the development of a Native Fish Management and Recovery Strategy (NFMRS). A stakeholder workshop to inform the development of a business case for the strategy was held in April with numerous experts attending. Pending approval of the NFMRS business case, development of the NFMRS will commence over 2019-20 alongside a detailed whole of Basin consultation and engagement process. The MDBA will be presenting further details on the NFMRS at Riversymposium.
