Keynote Speaker: Brigit Vogel, Executive Secretary of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR)

Keynote Speaker: Brigit Vogel, Executive Secretary of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR)

We are incredibly pleased to announce that Birgit Vogel will be presenting at this year’s Riversymposium. Ms. Vogel is the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) Executive Secretary, being the first woman to take on this role. She is an Austrian native and water resources manager with a very elaborated multicultural and international work experience in river basin management, working for over 20 years across Europe, India, South-East Asia, China, Africa and the South Caucasus, covering many transboundary rivers basins like the Danube, Mekong, the Ganga, the Okavango and many more.

Ms. Vogel’s keynote presentation will reflect on the journey of cooperation and work of the Danube countries since the signing of the Danube Protection Convention and the establishment of the ICPDR. Through examples, the presentation will range from the cooperation framework being brought into place, initial joint activities like monitoring along the Danube River and joint action plans, to current achievements such as the basin-wide Danube River Basin Management and Flood Risk Management Plans. Processes and factors, including the diversity of the countries and actions  that have been driving coordinated actions and transformations in the Danube Basin will be highlighted while not forgetting the key challenges that shaped the cooperation framework of the ICPDR.

This is an important and topical keynote presentation, directly relating to the Danube River of which the 2022 International Riversymposium is commemorating. Register to attend – we look forward to learning more about the Danube with you either in Vienna or online.
